Arm-based tablets accounted for 89% of the total number of tablet APs shipped in 2021. Tablet AP ASPs grew 21% year-over-year, driven by better combination and platelet supply constraints. »
Sravan Kundojjala, report author and director of Handset Component Technologies at Strategy Analytics: “The application processor (AP) market for tablets, a key segment of the mobile computing market, was down 8% year-over-year in 2021 after rebounding in 2020. Demand lack of low-end tablet access points and wafer supply constraints affected shipments. However, shipments increased by 13% compared to the pre-pandemic period in 2019. Despite the drop in shipments, the tablet access point market saw double-digit growth in average selling prices (ASP) , thanks to a wide range of high-end tablet access points. “
Mr. Kundojjala continued, “Apple, MediaTek and Unisoc saw shipment growth, while Allwinner, HiSilicon, Qualcomm, Rockchip and Samsung LSI saw shipments decline in 2021.
MediaTek maintained its leadership position in the non-Apple tablet hotspot market, with design wins at Amazon, Lenovo, Samsung and others. On the other hand, Qualcomm has focused on high-end tablets and has seen shipments drop 15% in 2021.”
